The Towns Around Asbury Introduction and Index A sense place is communicated not only by what is before our eyes but by what we preconsciously know is around us. In writing, as in life, it is impossible to communicate this sense all at once. Rather, it is through the steady building up of "world" that we eventually round out (usually to some small degree of satisfaction) the feeling of being in a place. As I have said several times in the Asbury "Tour," this technique is absolutely required for a description of Asbury Park. It is necessary not only for elements inside Asbury but outside as well. It is for this reason that we must hear about the wonderful towns around Asbury Park
Deal Lake and Towns Here's my favorite (most useful) postcard again, showing Wanamassa, Interlaken, West Allenhurst, Allenhurst and Loch Arbour. The only towns not visible are Deal (which is about a "half- inch" outside the picture to the north) and Ocean Grove, which is on the other side of Asbury Park, just across Wesley Lake. We're going to start with Ocean Grove. Come away with me. The journey will be sweet.
