Walter
Woonsocket
Water Woundsocket,
chemical engineer at a well-known national
laboratory, while testing a new dish- washing
liquid, accidentally concocted a marvelous
solution, one which he had the good fortune —
later the misfortune — of smelling. Instantly
a miniature fairy (fey or pixie) appeared
before his eyes. Long story short, he became
addicted to the fantastic chemical-visitation,
routinely inhaling whole batches of the
liquid. The image of “Harriet” (as he named
the minuscule vision) became so fixed in his
mind that felt compelled to dedicate nearly
the whole of his time to conjuring her up,
spending many hours and entire weekends in
this exercise. The eventual
ruination of his life (the
breakup of his family, loss of job,
etc.) is a tragic story of human
dissipation best left untold.
